Bank of Khartoum (BOK) Rich History
Bank of Khartoum, established in 1913, is the oldest and largest Islamic financial institution in Sudan. Over the years, we’ve come together from many sources to become an organization, focused on improving financial lives through meaningful connections. Based in Khartoum, BOK Group has a balance sheet of USD 2 billion, nearly 3,000 employees, and more than 150 branches and cash offices, along with over 325 ATMs/CDMs, making it the largest branch and ATM network in Sudan. BOK started operations in the Kingdom of Bahrain in November 2015 and expanded to the UAE with BOK International in May 2017 as part of our growth strategy.
Our Notable Achievements
BOK’s achievements to date are significant. We are the first bank in Sudan to receive 'AA-' (long-term) and 'A-1' (short-term) ratings, along with a 'Stable' outlook from the Islamic International Rating Agency (IIRA). In July 2019, SIGMA RATINGS Inc. in New York awarded BOK Group a BBB+ rating with a Positive Outlook, highlighting our effective controls in areas like compliance, corporate governance, and financial crime policies.
Sanctions on Sudan were lifted in November 2018, but the Bank of Khartoum had been delisted from OFAC since April 2011, making it the preferred bank for the United Nations, NGOs, embassies, corporations, and the private sector.
